The councilor of the district of l’Orée du Parc, Isabelle N. Since its founding in 2002 by Club Skinouk, cross-country skiing has been at the heart of the Relais plein air mission. He has seen a generation of
recreational and competitive skiers, like Magali Daoust and Antoine Cyr, new member of the Canadian cross-country ski team which is close to the top 30 in the world. According to Pierre Millette, President of Club Skinouk, “the Relais plein air was a real collaboration with the City of Gatineau and the Commission
of the national capital since its inception, and makes the practice of winter sports much more accessible, both for families and for hosting large-scale events such as the Skinouk Cup and the Gatineau Loppet. The benefits for the community are really important ”. Summer activities such as mountain biking can also be developed there beyond the Club Skinouk program, which is the largest in the national capital region. “After two rental seasons and winter bike programs, the enthusiasm for cycling is such that we hope to add mountain bikes for the seasons to come”, according to Mr. Benoit Sanscartier, president of the Relais plein air. .
Beyond the outdoor programming in Gatineau Park, the Relais plein air aims to expand its activities and promote the waterways in the west of the city of Gatineau, in particular through the rental of boats. and guided excursions.

The agreement provides for the opening of the Relais plein air in Gatineau Park during all four seasons. In addition to the extended hours in winter, the Relais will now be open 12 months a year. “The low season months will have limited hours, but citizens and visitors can expect to access our services throughout the summer and during the fall colors.
Development work is expected in 2021, which could cause some inconvenience, but we will see improved and safe facilities, still welcoming, authentic and accessible for people with reduced mobility, which will be the pride of Gatineau residents ”according to Sébastien Audette, general manager of Relais plein air.

Through this agreement, the Relais plein air improves its services to holders of the Accès Gatineau Plus card by lending cross-country skiing or snowshoeing equipment for at least one hour. The development of the adjacent land into a mini cross-country ski recreation park also allows free practice and training in cross-country skiing for all. “It’s an excellent playground to learn and be ready to discover the wonderful Gatineau Park in complete safety,” added Mr. Audette.
