The programs

With its partnership with renowned cross-country ski clubs across Canada which offer programs for youth ages 4 to 18 of varying levels, the Relais plein air is the ultimate cross-country ski learning center in the Outaouais!

Ten weeks programs

These programs are perfect for learning throughout the winter with ten consecutive weeks of classes

Start Dates: Weekend programs start on January 4th, 5th and end on March 7th, 8th

Class schedules: Different time slots on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 5 pm. See the details below.

Bunnyrabbit Program

This program is for children five years old and under. This is the first level of Nordiq Canada‘s technical apprenticeship program. Through physical games and structured activities, this program introduces children to cross-country skiing and its healthy lifestyle.

Program Objectives:

  • Help children develop a positive self-image.
  • Be fun.
  • Provide children with the opportunity to make ski-friends.
  • Develop fundamental movement skills.
  • Help children develop an awareness and appreciation of our natural environment

Jackrabbit Program

The program is for children six to nine years old. This is the second level of Nordiq Canada‘s technical apprenticeship program. The aim of this program is to teach young people the basics of cross-country skiing (classic technique and skating) and to make them aware of the importance of integrating sport with their lives, in order to improve their health and quality of life.

Program Objectives:

  • Encourage FUN and participation,
  • Develop ABC’s. Agility, Balance, Coordination and speed.  
  • Frequent cross-country skiing during the season. 
  • Good technique habits developed through repeated practice using the Jackrabbit program awards 
  • Utilize games and ski playgrounds to develop technique, speed skills and fitness.
  • Well structured programs.
  • Develop linear, lateral and multi directional speed. 
  • Develop a team/social atmosphere. 
  • Introduce competition in a team environment whenever possible. 
  • Encourage inter-club social, skill and fitness orientated ski activities e.g. camps.

Track Attack Program

The Track Attack program is designed for skiers who are usually between the ages of 10 and 12, and who are in the “Learning to Train” stage of development. The focus of the Track Attack program is to help participants become technically competent cross country skiers and use their skills to explore a wide range of ski activities.

Program Objectives:

  • Fitness! Fun! Teamwork!
  • Improve cross country ski technique
  • Explore and enjoy many fun off trail ski activities
  • Learn how to wax skis, race with confidence, and learn about wilderness safety

Beginner’s special : Initiation to classic cross-country skiing

Would you like to introduce your child to cross-country skiing without signing up for a winter program? From December 27th, the Relais plein air offers, in partnership with Club Skinouk, initiation classes. This 2-hours session is designed to teach beginners about coordination, balance, and basic technique (diagonal stride), including proper use of equipment and clothing. Limit of one session per person. Group session of 4 to 8 people.

The initiation includes pass and ski rental for half a day.

Opening hours:

From January 5th to March 8th: Sundays at 9 am and 3 pm (not available on holidays and February 16) and Wednesdays at 6:30 pm.

For those needing equipment, please arrive 30 minutes in advance.

Price: $ 55 + taxes

Price – Accès Gatineau + member : $ 15 + taxes

Private lessons

Private cross-country ski lessons (up to 4 people) are open to all children from 4 to 13 years old. They are offered by coaches certified by Cross Country Quebec and who have many years of experience in the development of young skiers. Private lessons allow you to reach the desired skill level faster.

Hour lessons:
Single: $ 60 + taxes
Double: $ 75 + taxes
Triple: $ 90 + taxes

Quadruple: $ 105 + taxes

6 private lessons of one hour :
Simple: $ 300 + taxes
Double: $ 380 + taxes
Triple: $ 450 + taxes

Quadruple: $ 530 + taxes

One hour and a half lessons are available at 1.5x the price of one hour.

Important note: Private lessons are subject to availability. A pass for Gatineau Park is required for people of 13 years old and over. You can purchase it  at Le Relais plein air or online at the National Capital Commission website. Rental equipment is available at a discount for guests of private lessons, contact us for more information.
